AREAS OF SPECIAL FOCUS
Rex is a skilled and compassionate and is experienced in working with individuals, marriages, families, and groups providing Biblical counsel in the areas of trauma and grief, enhancement of interpersonal relationships, marriages, parent child relations, mood stabilization, and desired behavioral changes. Creative interventions and perspectives, continual focus upon strengths, resources, and the pursuit of greater insight and understanding of oneself and others are key areas of focus in Rex’s therapeutic work.
Rex has gained extensive experience and training in working with children and adolescents as well as challenging and complex family situations. This includes clinical work in both outpatient and inpatient settings, conducting parenting classes and groups, intervention with children with special needs, and research in youth violence and suicide intervention and prevention.
He has an emphasis upon characteristics of individuals, marriages and families that make them unique providing meaning and purpose to their lives and relationships. This includes areas of faith and spirituality, culture, family traditions, community contexts, morals and values. These and other factors are essential elements of relationships and family life and are considered core aspects of the therapeutic process.

A SEASONED COUNSELOR
Through many challenging clinical positions, including serving as a therapist for diverse populations in high risk settings, behavioral counseling for special needs children, research consultant, and multiple roles of management; Rex has consistently demonstrated a track record of integrity, leadership, and high quality services. Rex currently holds a position as the Clinical Director for a large clinic providing mental health treatment to children and adolescents in the North County Region. These and many other professional experiences have equipped and prepared him to provide effective mental health services to a wide range of age groups, diverse cultural groups, and a variety of diagnoses and presenting problems.
COMMITTED TO MINISTRY
Raised as the child of a full time pastor and minister, Rex’s Christian faith has always been central in his personal, professional, and family life. This has included consistent involvement in both church and small group communities for the purposes of fellowship, accountability, and spiritual growth. Among other significant ministry experiences, Rex has had the opportunity to serve on several cross-cultural mission teams to areas such as Central Africa, Scandinavia, Mexico, and Guatemala helping to enrich his cultural understanding and sensitivity. Rex also enjoys playing guitar and singing and has led worship for over 10 years in various church and ministry settings as well as serving in church leadership roles.
A PROFESSIONAL SPEAKER
Public speaking, facilitation, and training have been experiences that Rex has acquired and utilized in his professional career. Topics have included Parenting Skills Training, Bipolar Disorder, Communication Skills and the Avoidance of Power Struggles, Crisis Intervention, and Resiliency. Teaching opportunities have also included speaking in Adult ministry and Church settings on issues such as forgiveness and moral development. He has provided workshops in suicide prevention, crisis management substance abuse and professional law and ethics.

COMMITTED TO FAMILY
Rex lives in the San Diego area with his wife and three young children. The roles of husband and father are his highest priorities and activities such as swimming, outings to the beach, playing games, and reading books are among his favorites to share with his family. Rex strives to practice what he teaches through effective communication, sacrifice, integrity, responsibility, and faithfulness in his family life.
