AREAS OF SPECIAL FOCUS

Ps 34:18 The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Katja bases her counseling on God’s heart of compassion and hope (Isaiah 42:3) and His promise of healing (Isaiah 61). She loves to see how God restores people, turns their weakness into strength and transforms even painful experiences to the good in His bigger plan (Genesis 50:20, Romans 8:28).

Within an eclectic approach to psychotherapy, Katja integrates her faith by using a Biblical cognitive approach to help clients identifying unhealthy attitudes, pain defenses and lies they believe about themselves, others and God. She supports them on the journey of discovering God’s truth and “renewing their minds (Romans 12:2)”.  Katja enjoys working holistically and creatively with clients to help them to express hidden emotions and to narrow the gap between head knowledge and emotional experience.

Katja’s heart is to assist young people in developing healthy dating relationships and being set free to live their God-given identity. Knowing the impact of a strong family, she wants to see marriages and families strengthened to be a healthy support systems for children. Through her own experiences she also has a great understanding of cross-cultural dynamics in relationships. She offers therapy in English as well as in German.

A SEASONED COUNSELOR

She worked with adolescents, young adults, and families on topics including dating/identity, adoption/trauma, panic attacks, and parenting/defiant behavior. In addition to that she gained experience in working with adults, the elderly and couples at a Christian Psychological Counseling Agency dealing with abuse, inferiority, religious psychosis, DID, alcoholism, divorce and marriage difficulties.

COMMITTED TO MINISTRY

Katja had been following Jesus since she was a child and has grown up in the church. She has volunteered in her church’s children’s ministry and has also been actively involved in many areas of her church’s youth ministry for several years. Katja’s mission trips have led her to Romania and Malaysia, the latter being part of a 6 month course with Youth With A Mission in Australia. She and her husband are part of a local church plant.

PROFESSIONAL SPEAKER

Part of Katja’s training in college was to assist in a seminar series about counseling children and adolescents and an informative lesson about eating disorders at a girl’s high school. She wrote her masters thesis on Social Anxiety in children and adolescents.

If you would like to schedule Katja as a guest speaker, please contact Frances J. Harvey at the Speakers Group for arrangements at 800-998-6329.

COMMITTED TO FAMILY

After 5 years of long-distance dating across the Atlantic, Katja and her husband were married in 2006. They enjoy being in the same location now and are becoming even more of the team that God wants them to be. They are committed to the scripture they chose for their wedding from Joshua 24:15 “But as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” They share a love for nature, music, creativity, traveling, family and friends.  Katja is close to her family and friends overseas in spite of the distance.
